The Cambridge University Australian Rules Football Club (CUARFC) prides itself on fostering a strong and inclusive community for al players of varying skill level. Many of our players have never played before, and we welcome both Cambridge University students and nearby residents.

The history of Australian rules football in Cambridge dates back to the 1850s when Tom Wills, the cerator the sport, was a student at Cambridge University. Whilst studying here, he experienced the various forms of 'football' played in England. On returning to Australia, he then invented the rules of the game with the aim of keeping fit during the cricket off season! CUARFC was then founded in 1908, with the first Varsity game on 18th March 1911. No records exist of a further Varsity until 1921, when the game became a regular fixture. The first women's varsity was played in 2018, resulting in a draw.
